‘Celebrate Women,’ annual breast cancer awareness event hosted by Johnston Memorial Hospital
Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death among women.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2019, an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S., as well as 62,930 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer, and an estimated 41,760 will die.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ballad Health Cancer Care at Johnston Memorial Hospital is hosting Celebrate Women, a special event to increase breast cancer awareness. The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia.
The event will include free health screenings, vendor booths, food trucks and more. Several members of the medical staff and clinical team at Johnston Memorial will also give presentations throughout the evening.
