Elective Surgeries Resumed 10/5/2024
Services at Greeneville Community Hospital – with the exception of surgery – will resume on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Ballad Health evacuated the facility on Saturday, Sept. 28, due to water supply issues related to the effects of Hurricane Helene. The hospital remained open for emergency medical and emergent obstetric services, but all other inpatient, outpatient and surgical services had been suspended.
Surgeries remain suspended until further notice; however, the following services will be available:
- ER services: These remain ongoing, as they have since Sept. 28.
- Inpatient services: Services will reopen under normal operations on Saturday, Oct. 5.
- Surgical services: At this time surgeries will remain suspended until further notice.
- Obstetrical services: Emergency obstetric (OB) services are still being provided for patients in active labor or who have an emergent situation.
- Outpatient services, including lab, sleep and radiology services: These will resume as of Monday, Oct. 7.
- Greeneville Community Hospital entrances: As of Saturday, Oct. 5, the main entrance and ER entrance will both be open.
Ballad Health thanks all its team members and clinicians for working to safely transfer and assist with patients’ care during the transfers and hospital suspension, as well as the city of Greeneville for working to restore services. All Ballad Health hospitals, except Unicoi County Hospital, are now open and receiving patients.

Our story
Greeneville Community Hospital formed from two legacy hospitals with a rich history in Greene County. Laughlin Memorial Hospital opened in 1939, and Takoma Regional Hospital has been a part of our community since 1928.
The merge of these two hospitals combines the expertise from both facilities into one location and allows for further investments in health services in Greeneville. Now working together on one campus, Greeneville Community Hospital continues the legacy of delivering excellent patient care. Our patients can take comfort in knowing they will be served by the same, familiar faces.
Greeneville Community Hospital is an acute inpatient facility, with a wide variety of additional services including cardiology services, diagnostic imaging, ICU, surgery and women's services, such as obstetrics and imaging.
Our top priority is always to provide the best in patient care.
